Come work for Purl A Row

I am looking for an assistant to come and work with me to start with on a Saturday once or twice a month before eventually doing this on your own on Saturday’s and cover me when I am on holiday or have my son.

The shop is built on a love for wool and British wool particularly but also with a little bit of something different thrown in. The new shop when it opens will be more than just wool and yarn though as I am looking to expand into some other crafts. All of them fibre related though. I have a very strong policy on inclusivity and I will expect this to be upheld by anyone working for me. You will not be expected to know every breed of sheep, and where it comes from. You will be taught about the different wool’s stocked in the shop. The shop is also a big supporter of Indie dyers and stocks a wide range of dyers. You will be told about each dyer in more detail if you are successful.

You will be expected to dress in a comfortable manner to you, be clean and tidy, be on time.

What you will be doing. To start with you will shadow me and learn how I run things. This will be anything from just running things through the till, to helping with pattern questions all the way through to helping a customer select a garments worth of wool. If I am teaching a class you will be left to deal with the running of the shop. You may also be asked to pack online orders too. I will train you on how to use my stock system and till.

The job will start in September. National minimum wage will be met, plus perks of working in a yarn store too.
Hours will be 10 till 4 Saturdays once a month to start. No previous experience other than knitting or crochet needed.

Apllications are open till July 31st and interviews will commence in August.

You must be either a knitter, crocheter or both.
Not be allergic to wool as this is primarily all I stock.
You need to be welcoming and cheerful.
You need to be willing to help everyone that walks through the door without prejudice.
You need to abide by the shop’s inclusivity and disability statement. I will uphold this during the recruitment process too.
You need to be over 18 years of age.

The shop will be in Newark-On-Trent on Cartergate Street.
